I’ve been busy with rearranging my time since starting work as a prep cook for 2 days a week. It’s amazing how disruptive 2 days can be!!
I wanted to see if I could cut it and YES, YES I CAN. The extra dough coming in is helping us get out of this fucking credit card hole we’re in thanks to the shit pay from Minuteman. I hope to not have to do it for a whole lot longer, but I’ll suck it up until we start seeing daylight and/or Nick gets his raise at the new job.
In other news, the scramble to find a Twitter replacement goes on. Mastodon is positioned well, but their infrastructure and difficulty of use is their main issue. Hive was trying, but they suck SO HARD and they censor. Their sign up ate my email, didn’t send a code and there’s zero support, so HARD PASS on Hive.
The new kid on the block is Post, which I did get into, but I’m underwhelmed. It is NOT a Twitter-like app, it is more like FB, with long posts rather than short bursts.
So, to recap, here are all the fucking social media accounts I now have:
MY BLOG (go there, FFS, for content)
FB (sigh)
IG (used to be good, FB ruined it)
LiveJournal (OG baybee)
Dreamwidth (LJ copy, never took off)
FetLife (yes, yes)
Tumblr (Just because. Used to be able to crosspost, no longer.)
Ello (just to get my handle, pretty useless)
Tribe (ugh, 80% creepy liberal men who think it’s Tinder)
Twitter (had several accts for biz, they are all idle, now I read for the schadenfreude)
Mastodon (UI sucks balls, I have no idea how to find myself, much less anyone else)
Hive (sign up fucked up, no support, they censor, fuck Hive)
Post (got in, it’s a FB copy, NOT a Twitter copy, MEH)
SubStack (which I do like, but I am not writing enough)
I think that’s all. Fuck. Too many goddam accounts. I’m hoping that everyone will FINALLY realise that a blog is where you should put your content. NOT SOCIAL, where it is commoditized. But I doubt it, people are just too lazy to break away. Other than my reading list (which is wrapping up for 2022!), I’ve not been blogging, simply because I’ve had so much change at the end of 2022, I’m just too tired to do it. That will change in 2023. I plan to be much more organized and give myself time to write.
Here’s to better content in 2023! Cheers!
